Uncle Teddy is a small, independent home decor and lifestyle brand, made in India by Deepak Bhakoo.
It is a place for things I love — decor, art, craft, handmade pieces, vintage and old objects, and all the little things that can bring character and personality into a space.
I have always loved finding interesting things, making things with my own hands, working with different materials, and looking at the way objects can change the feel of a room. I’ve always had a soft spot for decor, art and craft, but especially for things that don’t feel ordinary or mass-produced.
For a long time, I thought about doing something with that interest.
And eventually, Uncle Teddy came into being.
What I Want Uncle Teddy to Be
I want Uncle Teddy to be a place where you can find affordable decor with character.
Not everything has to be expensive to be beautiful or interesting. And not everything needs to come out of a huge factory and look exactly like a thousand other things.
Whenever possible, I’d rather make something myself. I love handmade objects and the small differences that make each one feel like an actual object rather than something that has simply come off an assembly line.
I also love old things.
Vintage pieces, objects with a little age, things that have been around for years and have somehow managed to remain interesting — these have a charm that new products often can’t reproduce.
So you’ll find a bit of all of that here.
Things I Would Want Myself
I don’t want Uncle Teddy to become a shop with thousands of products just for the sake of having a large catalogue.
I’d rather find or make fewer things that I genuinely like.
Some pieces will be made by me. Some may be handmade by others. Some may be vintage or old. Others may simply be objects that I find interesting enough to want in my own home.
There isn’t one strict formula.
The test is quite simple:
Would I want this in my own space?
If the answer is yes, it has a chance of finding its way to Uncle Teddy.
Keeping It Affordable
I don’t believe good decor should automatically mean expensive decor.
Uncle Teddy is a business, of course, and it needs to cover its costs and grow. But I don’t want to price things simply because something could be sold for a much higher price.
If I can make something, find something, or source something at a sensible cost, I’d rather keep the final price sensible too.
I want someone to be able to find something they love here without feeling that interesting decor is only meant for people willing to spend a fortune.
That’s the idea behind Uncle Teddy.
Affordable decor. Handmade when possible. Vintage and old things when we find them. And, above all, things with a little character.
